Our midweek gathering strives to be a safe atmosphere of encouragement and spiritual renewal. From 7:00 PM in the Youth Room we come together for dinner, games, and student-led entertainment for the first hour. The second hour is devoted to hearing words of life from the Scriptures, taking up a weekly offering, testimonials, prayer, and worship.
SUNDAY BIBLE STUDY:
Meeting at 9:35 AM in the Youth Room we begin each new week by opening God's Word together with a special focus on preparing our hearts for worship at 11:09 AM.
EMPHASIS ON SERVICE:
Serving is the HEARTBEAT of this youth group, so we provide many offerings for being the hands and feet of Jesus in the surrounding community and beyond. We have served together in all the following ways: wrapping Christmas presents at the local Barnes and Noble, watching the children and working the thrift store at Montrose Street Reach, repainting the playground at Tipps Elementary, distributing Thanksgiving Food Baskets at the Houston Northwest Community Center Food Pantry, leading aerobics for the Citizens of The Brookwood Community, playing Bingo with the elderly residents of Legend Oaks, helping Redeemed Ministries fight human trafficking, picking up litter at Bear Creek Park, providing volunteer support for our annual VBS Sports Camp, providing monthly support for students of Mission of Hope Haiti, praying for and raising awareness for our persecuted brothers and sisters bravely serving Christ in hostile nations (The Voice of the Martyrs), and even making a Living Water International Mission Trip to Nicaragua to drill a clean water well and teach water hygiene.
Reaching out to our neighbors is a strong focus of our energy. We have planned multiple large-scale events, such as the HIP HOP HOPE concert, the FREE2FLY 3-on-3 basketball tournament, and LIVING WATER DAY when over $22,000 was raised for clean water. During the school year we offer FREE TUTORING on Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 4-6 PM. And on the second Wednesday of each month we offer FREE COUNSELING from 4-6 PM through Shield Bearer Christian Counseling. A basketball and soccer goal are on the church property as another practical way to welcome our neighbors. Lastly, our youth group sponsors an AAU boys basketball team, the Houston Hornets.
Lifepath Student Ministry is self-supported, so the annual DESSERT AUCTION and GARAGE SALE help generate the needed funds for our growing ministry. We also regularly collect diapers (sizes 4-6), baby wipes, baby formula, toiletries, sunscreen, and insect repellent for Montrose Street Reach, and socks (all colors, ages, and sizes) for Anne Strong's annual SOCKS FOR THE HOMELESS, which last year received over 3,000 pair!
We plan outings with the simple goals of having fun, forging new friendships, and being a light for Jesus. Here is a sampling: Sky High Sports (indoor trampoline park), iFly (indoor skydiving), laser tag, lock-ins, concerts (Hillsong United, Lecrae), Six Flags, 5K runs for charity, movies, and a Galveston beach retreat.
RANDOM COOL STUFF:
Our group is known for giving handwritten and signed thank you cards to members who serve our students and give financially to the Youth Fund. Our group is known for presenting a personally engraved and dedicated Life Application Teen Study Bible (New Living Translation) to any student in need of God's Word. Our members are known for generously providing financial scholarships for students to attend events. Our group is known for being a “paperless” youth group, relying heavily on social networking and word-of-mouth marketing. And, what makes us most proud, our group is known as a group where the “hopeless” of the world feel welcomed and loved. We are a true “come as you are” youth ministry.
