Good Friday Service of Shadows
Join us in observing the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus.
The Service of Shadows (or Tenebrae in Latin) dates back over a thousand years. It developed to help us focus on the suffering and death of Jesus. The most significant aspect of the service is the gradual extinguishing of the light and candles in the room, symbolizing flight and betrayal of the disciples and the darkness of sin for which Jesus died. The darker tone of the evening is unlike our other worship gatherings. But it is appropriately somber, and it leads us to a deeper appreciation of the sacrifice made by our Lord and Savior. It gives a space for us to lament and properly identify our own areas of sin and need for salvation.
